More than 135 people converged on Salt Lake City for the 21st Century Asphalt Pavements Conference, co-sponsored by NAPA and FHWA. The day and a half of sessions started with NAPA Executive Vice President Jay Hansen discussing the future of infrastructure funding, followed by technical presentations on experiences with recycled materials, warm-mix asphalt, thin overlays for pavement preservation, engineered binders, and more.
The roundtable format used to facilitate discussions at the meeting helped boost engagement among meeting attendees. One attendee stated: "I feel this provides the best all around, most informative approach to answering questions. The benefit of several speakers being able to weigh in on any given question is immeasurable."
Immediately following the conference, two dozen attendees toured Liberty Tire Recycling, a high-volume facility producing recycled tire rubber for use in asphalt paving. Attendees also had a chance to meet with 15 exhibiting companies during the event: Alliance Geosynthetics; Asphalt Shingle Grinding Service; BG Chemical; BLS Enterprises Inc.; Carbolite Inc.; Crafco Inc.; Dynapac USA Inc.; Krendl Machine Co. Inc.; L.B. Performance; Maxam Equipment Inc.; MWV Evotherm; Novatek; Process Heating Co.; Stonemont Solutions Inc.; and Tarmac International Inc. A special thank you goes to BLS Enterprises and Maxam Equipment for their additional support of the conference
